Spelling

I use spellingcity.com for the kids to practice, play games, and take their spelling tests on.

I started using Abeka for spelling but my son was overwhelmed by the lists.  He liked Spectrum Spelling better, which I have been using for the past two years.  We are going to try Spelling Workout next school year for a change and for more challenge.

I usually have the children do a couple pages a day of the spelling workbook.  In addition, one day we write our spelling words 4 times and one day we write sentences with our words.

What are some tips for improving spelling?  What curriculum do you use?

  1. At Trinity Classical we are using the "Wise Guide for Learning" by Wanda Sanseri along with the "Spell to write and Read". Phillip just started at TCS so I was wondering how long he would take to learn the 70 phonograms and 29 spelling rules. Both kiddos have learned them very fast! It is a new spelling concept for me. Thankfully there are many youtube videos that teach lessons. You may want to look in my Pinterest homeschooling tips page for the video links.
