I like it because it is colorful and the explanations are simple in the student workbook. I often teach from the student workbook and I don't buy the teacher's manual which comes with a CD and is a little pricey.
It follows what most schools teach during a school year. It alternates between teaching grammar and writing. My children like it very much and I have used it for two years. Many of the writing styles are taught throughout the year: how-to-paragraphs, descriptive writing, letter writing, poems, etc.
I do want to add more writing than what is just in this book. Any ideas for creative writing? What grammar curriculum has worked for you? Seen any good websites?
