DVDs, CDs, Books

Since we don't have a library here, books are precious.  We often bring books with us when we come back from the U.S. and we also have our Kindle.

Do you have any books on the Kindle that you recommend for kids?  It's hard to know what's good out there.  I have some that I will post at a later time.

Some educational DVD's that are good are Magic School Bus which teaches about science.

We also loved Liberty's Kids.  It is a cartoon series which teaches about the American Revolution.  It's very well done and many well-known actors star in them.  We learned so much from them and they cover most of the major events of the war well.

We also recently watched Drive Thru History, which is done by a Christian company.  We bought the Ancient History DVD series which covers Rome, Greece, Turkey, and Asia Minor.  This is for older kids, perhaps 10 years old and up.  My 8 year old liked it too, although some parts were too violent for her (Isn't that what most history is about?).

A lot of information is covered, but they make it entertaining with a lot of humor and driving around the actual locations where events took place. Adults will like these too. The Roman and Greek DVD's go into some gory detail but it is all taught through a Biblical perspective.

Planet Earth is excellent as well.  We have watched it numerous times and the cinematography is excellent.

If you live in our city, you are welcome to borrow any of these from me.  :)

  1. Here's some good Kindle books we have bought and read:
Paddington Here and Now by Michael Bond
    Ribsy by Beverly Clearly
Obi, Gerbil on the Loose by Michael Delaney
Pinky Pye by Eleanor Estes (actually I recommend all of her books)
Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (illustrated edition)
Raggedy Ann Stories by Johnny Gruelle
Stormy, Misty's Foal by Marguerite Henry (all of her books are good)
Waggit, Waggit Again, and Waggit Forever by Peter Howe (my kids say that there should be sequels to this)
Magic Tree House series are all on Kindle
Mad Scientists Club series (if you have a Kindle I can loan you this)
