Math

I used Singapore Math in the past but it started to become to challenging and there was not enough explanation.  I am using Math in Focus now which is the Singapore Math method.  I like the colorful textbooks a lot better.  There is a lot of practice and there are step by step explanations as well.  The word problems are good.  Some are pretty challenging so I assign those as "bonus".

I use multiplication.com which is has lessons, drills, and games on it.  There are also games for addition and subtraction as well.

My kids have also liked coolmath-games.com as well.

If a child needs more practice or more challenge, I have the kids go to khanacademy.org.  What has worked for you?

What curriculum do you use?  Have you seen any good websites?

  1. I also use SIngapore math, but find the "new" program for older children too challenging to teach. I am using Teaching Textbooks for Pre-Algebra for my 7th grader. It is a computer cd program with reviews and some teaching . A bit simplified, but he enjoys it.

  2. Thanks, Melissa! That's helpful to know. I like Singapore Math but it is challenging at times for my son. Heard it is a little ahead of what they teach in public schools. I heard some people switch when their kids get to the older grades. Maybe I'll stick to this until 7th grade.

  3. We use Teaching Textbooks (just started!) but as for online games my kids seem to like Dreambox.
